Fangs for the Memories: Final ‘Twilight’ Movie Split in Two

By DAVE ITZKOFF

TwilightSummit Entertainment Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Twilight.”

Even if you’ve never read a “Twilight” book in your whole undead life, you’re probably aware that “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final entry in Stephenie Meyer’s novels about a young vampire and the human woman who loves him, is possibly the strangest in that series. (Among other plot twists, the human Bella gives birth to the vampire Edward’s baby, and the werewolf Jacob becomes romantically bonded to that baby.) So what’s the best way to handle the cinematic adaptation of such a weird work? Break it into two movies, of course.

Summit Entertainment, the movie studio behind the “Twilight” films, will release the film version of “Breaking Dawn” as two separate movies, The Hollywood Reporter said. Both will be directed by Bill Condon (“Gods and Monsters,” “Dreamgirls”) with the first part to be released on Nov. 18, 2011, and the second planned for the following year. The third, less strange movie in the cycle, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” will be released on June 30.

The breaking up of “Breaking Dawn” follows other cinematic literary adaptations that have been staggered out over multiple films, including “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” (which will be released in two parts in 2010 and 2011) and “The Hobbit” (which is planned as two films for 2011 and 2012).

Hey, Kristen Stewart, this means you get to star in one whole additional “Twilight” movie! Pretty exciting, right?

Maybe not.

Bill Condon will direct Breaking Dawn…..

Taken from: http://www.denofgeek.com

Fair dues to Summit Entertainment here. It’d been reported quite widely that it was being quite ambitious in where it was casting its net for a director for the film version of Twilight: Breaking Dawn. We’ve had Sofia Coppola linked with it, for instance, as well as Stephen Daldry, amongst others. In short, not necessarily the kind of director you’d have linked with the fourth episode in a movie franchise.

Now? Its ambition has been rewarded. Summit has revealed that Bill Condon – he of Gods And Monsters and Dreamgirls fame – has signed on the dotted line to helm Breaking Dawn. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have all signed up to reprise their roles too, but you’re going to have to wait for it. For, in spite of the year gap between Twilight 1 and 2, and the seven months between 2 and 3, you’ve now got three years until Breaking Dawn makes it to cinemas. The film is being earmarked for a 2013 release.

What’s not clear from the Summit announcement is if it’s pressing ahead with its plan to break Breaking Dawn down into two movies. The formal statement talks of Breaking Dawn in the singular, and we wonder if Summit is going all out for one big, long film rather than the costlier option of plumping for two.

Once we know for definite, we’ll pass on the news…

I don’t know about you guys, BUT I AM PISSED THAT WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT TIL 2013 TO SEE BD.

What are your feelings on this?
